Our mission at Parkview Church is to help people grow. We always want to be a church that is outward focused to have the greatest impact in our community and the world. We strongly understand that in order to do this we have to make the most of every opportunity. As well, we want to use all the resources God has blessed us with to shine the light of His Kingdom to the world. We want to be charitable in every way. We want to pay attention to the needs around us, both locally and globally. This is something we do with our connection to the Royal Life Centre in Guelph and the Village of Hope in Zimbabwe. We care about social justice and standing up for the marginalized in our community. Our conviction lies in the following: Isaiah 1:17; Isaiah 58:6-7; Matthew 25:31-46
The current Syrian Refugee crisis offers us again a chance to impact lives for the sake of God's Kingdom. The turmoil in Syria and Iraq has seen many in their attempts to flee the region to Europe lose their lives. The scenes depicted on our TV screens, and the sounds heard over the radio help us understand the severity of the issue. Over the last few years, over 2 million Syrians have been displaced from their homes. A large number of these refugees have settled in camps all over the Middle East. The camps, however, are not free from violence and/or threat especially for Christians and other minorities.
FULFILLING THE NEED
The Canadian Government is working to identify those most in need and matching them with sponsoring organizations in Canada. PAOC has a Sponsorship Agreement with the government to help settle Christians who are facing persecution in refugee camps in Canada. Parkview Church has been mandated by our board to work with PAOC to resettle a family of three Christians in Guelph. We are excited about this endeavour.
ADDRESSING THE SECURITY RISK
There are three levels of security vetting the refugees whom Parkview is resettling:
1) The UNHCR
2) The Government of Canada
3) Pentecostal Assemblies Of Canada (PAOC)
